Kiril Petkov, Ph.D. in Medieval Bulgarian and Southeastern European History (Sofia, 1994) and Medieval and Early Modern Western European History (NYU, 2002) is Professor of Mediterranean History at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He has published several articles and two books.

This volume is the first comprehensive collection to gather together the records of the medieval Bulgarian centuries in English translation. Stone annals, works of religious instructions, anti-heretical treatises, apocrypha, royal charters, as well as numerous graffiti and marginal notes, shed abundant light onto a major cultural tradition of the European southeast from the seventh to the fifteenth century. Produced by Bulgarians of all walks of life, the evidence testifies, among other things, to the unique features of Bulgarian historical consciousness, political custom, and religious sensibility as well as the country’s conformity to the broad currents of medieval Europe’s cultural development and evolution. What is at stake is how philosophy colors and shapes the way we receive and engage each other, our world, and God. Bruce Ellis Benson is Associate Professor and Chair of the Philosophy Department at Wheaton College. He is author of Pious Nietzsche (IUP, 2007). He is editor (with Kevin Vanhoozer and James K. A. Smith) of Hermeneutics at the Crossroads (IUP, 2006).

ПРЕДГОВОР КЪМ НАСТОЯЩОТО ИЗДАНИЕ
В навечерието на сто и десетата годишнина от рождението на проф. Христо Вакарелски, всички ние, неговите наследници, преживяваме огромна радост,защото в ръцете ни е новото издание на неговата „Етнография на България”.
Издаването на труда стана възможно благодарение на Издателство „Артграф”, с директор г-жа Катерина Захариева, на която и на целия колектив на издателството изказваме искрено сърдечна благодарност.„Етнография на Вългария” е най-обобщаващият труд на Христо Вакарелски, не случайно наричан от изследователите на неговото творчество „венец” на неговата научноизследователска дейност. В този труд са разкрити традиционният бит на народа ни, както и различните прояви на неговата духовна култура. Това е резултат на непрекъснати обиколки из страната ни в продължение на почти целия съзнателен живот на автора му. Може би няма село, което да не е посетено от него. Контактът му с хората от народа изключително много му помага да събере извънредно ценни материали, неизвестни дотогава на етнографската наука. Това може да направи само човек, който безпределно обича народа си. Свидете ли сме на огромната му радост, при завръщането му от поредната своя експедиция, затова, че все повече разбира и оценява творческия гений и мъдростта на обикновените хора от народа ни.
Към написване на капиталния си труд „Етнография на Вългария”. Вакарелски пристъпва едва, когато преценява, че е събрал достатъчно обилен емпиричен материал. Междувременно проучва цялата литература, посветена на отделни етнографски въпроси, разпръснати в отделни трудове и статии в различни списания и сборници.
Ръкописът на труда е готов през 1961 г. Оттук нататък обаче започват пречките, които целенасочено се поставят от директора на Етнографския институт с музей по това време, чието име не искам да спомена, който държи работата в чекмеджето си повече от 10 години.
Това е причината „Етнографията” да излезе от печат най-напред в Полша {през 1965 г.), после в Германия (през 1969 г.). Тази книга, а също така и многобройните му публикации на чужди езици в Австрия, Полша, Чехия, Словакия, Германия, Естония, Унгария, Швеция, Финландия, Франция, Югославия, Гърция и другаде го прави един от най-известните и продуктивни учени-етнографи в Европа. Освен това, тои поддържа постоянна връзка лично и с писма с учени от цял свят. Това дава основание на фондацията Готфрид-фон Хердер при Виенския университет да удостои проф. Христо Вакарелски с високата Хердерова награда “за особени заслуги в областта на мирното съвместно съществуване между народите”. Дипломата му е връчена на 30 април 1965 г. Наградата се връчва за първи път на учен от Вългария и този учен е Христо Вакарелски.

На български език „Етнографията” излиза едва през 1974 г., след като в пресата излизат критични статии за бездействието на Етнографския институт. Появата й се посреща с изключително голям интерес. Изчерпана е за много кратко време. Това принуждава издателство „Наука и изкуство” да я преиздаде само след три години, през 1977 г. Второто издание се изчерпва също в кратки срокове, след което книгата отново се превръща в библиографска рядкост и трудно може да се намери на висока цена в антикварните книжарници.
От цялата научна продукция на проф. Христо Вакарелски (над 1000 заглавия), „Етнография на България” е най-търсеният му труд. Тя е настолна книга на всеки учен, занимаващ се с някоя от хуманитарни те науки. Търсят я и я изучават студенти и обикновени граждани. Със сигурност с това ново издание ще се попълнят още безброй много лични библиотеки.
Това действително е венецът на изследователската работа на учения, който отдава целия си живот на етнографската наука, въпреки ог ромните трудности, които среща по пътя си.
В своята автобиографична книга, “Моят път към и през етнографията”, оставена в ръкопис и издадена след смъртта му Вакарелски припомня трудностите, срещани по пътя към върховете на любимата си наука. Нека да припомним искрените думи, с които тази книга завършва: “Като погледна назад, мога да кажа, че никъде не съм кръшкал по пътя си, никога не съм заобикалял пречките с хитрост и безчестие, към себе си, към хората, към етнографията и към родината. Катерил съм се по пречките с търпение, сразранени може би пръсти, но не съм криволичил”‘.
За нас, неговите деца, внуци и правнуци, Христо Вакарелски остава пример с неговата скромност, трудолюбие, толерантност и с огромната му обич към България и българския народ.

Лиляна Хабянович Джурович гордо носи титлата “любима авторка” в съседна Сърбия. Българските читетели пък я познават с романа й “Пауновото перо”, който тя лично представи при гостуването си на Софийския панаир на книгата.
Критиката определя православния роман “Петкана” като литературен феномен. Книгата проследява земния път на най-обичаната и почитана светица на Православието - Преподобна Света Петка. Жизнеописанието на светицата изцяло следва житието й, написано от свети патриарх Евтимий Търновски. Повествованието е построено по оригинален начин - всеки герой разказва по нещо за Света Петка. Тя самата също се включва в разказа. Авторката е описала проникновено земният й път-от рождението до успението.(Изд. “Унискорп”)
